General
The SUNBEAM 34 is the latest design of Schoechl Yachts of Austria,
offering Europe's best-built cruising yachts. The German Sailing Magazine
"Yacht" gave its highest rating - the 5 star award - to the SUNBEAM yachts.
Their quality is in every aspect superior to other, even well built, sailing
yachts.
The SUNBEAM 34 is a fast and very comfortable cruising Yacht, designed to adapt to any sailing environment. The V-shaped bow eliminates pounding in choppy seas and makes for a very dry boat. The deck is laid out for easy handling by only one or two persons. The SUNBEAM 34 is extremely seaworthy and built to withstand the rough conditions of the North Sea.
Hull and deck are 100% hand laid fiberglass. The use of isophtalic acid resin and gelcoat guarantees an extremely long life of the boat. Blistering, a common problem with most other yachts, is unknown with a SUNBE0AM. All materials, fittings and the equipment meet or exceed German Lloyd's specifications, the highest boat building standards in the world.
The SUNBEAM 34 is in every aspect a special yacht. It comes very complete - see the listed standard equipment.
The SUNBEAM 34 is very easy to maintain since there is hardly any wood on the exterior of the boat, unless you choose to have the yacht delivered with a teak deck. You will be very surprised, however, when entering the cabin. Here you will find the finest handcrafted Mahogany interior. This creates the ideal combination of a nearly maintenance free exterior with an interior found only in traditional all-wooden yachts.
If you compare the outstanding quality of a SUNBEAM and the all-inclusive equipment with yachts of comparable size, you realize the superb value you get for your money.
Construction
Hull: 100% hand-laid fiberglass construction using alternating layers
of mat and woven roving combined with special woven rovings stitched to
a glass felt. Only isophtalic acid resin and isophtalic gelcoat are used
guaranteeing a blister free laminat. The colored water lines and boot top
are integrated into the gelcoat. All stress points are heavily reinforced.
Bulkheads and all interior parts are laminated to the hull. This superb
building method provides an extremely strong, but still moderately light
weight structure. The SUNBEAM hull is intentionally overbuilt (like most
other parts of the yacht) since the rough seas of Northern Europe tolerate
only the very best. Ballast:Hydrodynamically designed keel fitted to the
hull with two lines of stainless steel bolts. The keel section of the hull
is particularly heavily reinforced with a system of cross members laminated
to the keel section of the hull. Two keel versions are available: Standard..........:
5 ft. 5 in. Shallow draft keel: 4 ft. 5 in.
Different from the usual construction, the shallow draft keel is a newly developed bulb lead keel. This expensive keel construction provides shallow draft and an extremely stable yacht with good windward performance.
Rudder
High performance elliptical rudder supported and protected by a solid
semi skeg. Forged stainless steel shaft for extraordinary strength and
firm control.
Hull/Deck Connection
5 in. wide overlapping "flanges" are laminated together and covered
by an aluminium rubrail which is thru-bolted. This design creates a practically
indestructible watertight connection and also adds extra strength to hull
and deck.
Deck and Superstructure
Also 100% hand laid. The deck is a sandwich construction with a thick
closed-cell p.u. foam core. A special antislip material, TBS, is laid into
the deck surface, offers excellent and safe grip. A self-draining, lockable
deckwell provides sufficient storage for anchor, chain and lines as well
as for fenders.
Fittings
To provide maximum strength for fittings and winches, stainless steel plates are laminated into the respective deck parts. The stanchions are fixed in special heavy duty sockets. Extra long genoa/tracks with sliding blocks for easy adjustment. The genoa tracks are recessed into the deck to make them "trip safe". The divided bow pulpit makes for easy boarding. The double-wired PVC coated lifelines and the special anodized aluminum handrails on top of the cabin offer extra safety when working on deck. The stern pulpit has double hand rails, fittings for extra blocks and an integrated very comfortable boarding ladder.
Cockpit
Spacious, deep, self-bailing cockpit with comfortable "body shaped"
teak seating. Large cockpit lockers with self-locking hatches. Whitlock
rod wheel steering, the best and most reliable steering system. Teak cockpit
sole.
Engine
The renowned 27 hp, 3 cylinder Yanmar (or Volvo) Diesel engine with
gearbox and SS-shaft provides plenty of reliable power to push the boat
at well over 6.5 knots. This 3 cylinder diesel engine runs very quiet and
vibration free. It is the finest and most reliable engine in its class.
Single lever control for convenience. 35 gallon fuel tank, electric fuel
gauge. The stainless steel propeller shaft is supported by a water-lubricated
cutless bearing mounted in a heavy duty stainless steel strut which is
bolted and laminated into the hull. Hatches: A sturdy sliding hatch with
seahood facilitates easy access to the companion way. A large watertight
aluminium hatch with "Perspex" glass allows air and light into the forecabin
and also serves as emergency exit. Other opening hatches provide air and
light for the main cabin, the aft cabin and the head/shower. For a bright
and friendly athmosphere there are windows and opening ports in the cabin
sides at eye level. There are also opening ports in the head, the galley,
the nav. station and in the aft cabin. Rigging: All stainless steel 19
x 1 rigging with rotary swadged terminals and stainless steel rigging screws.
Anodized aluminium mast and boom, internal halyards. The mast is hinged
in a stainless steel foot and can be easily lowered. Boom with jiffy reefing
system, outhaul, topping lift and boom vang. All halyards and lines are
led back to the cockpit for easy handling.
Electrical System
12 V onboard system including two 90 Ah batteries with main battery
switch and Voltmeter. Switch panel with 20 individual circuits and automatic
circuit breakers. Each circuit is marked with a symbol and has an on/off
switch with control light. Tank gauges. Ample lights in all cabins. International
navigation lights (Aqua Signal or similar). Steaming light, deck light
and masthead/anchor light.
Water supply system: Water pressure system with electric pump. 80 gallon stainless steel tank with deck filling and access lid for easy cleaning (additional 50 gallon water tank optional), water taps on galley and head sinks, all drains are secured by seacocks.
Interior
Finest handcrafted mahogany interior, finished with multilayers of flame retardant varnish. Mahogany and holly floor throughout the cabins.
Spacious forecabin with 2 comfortable, nearly 7' long berths with storage
underneath. Lockers and shelves above. A fill- in piece with an additional
cushion converts the two single into a very comfortable double berth. The
forecabin can be completely enclosed by a solid door.
.
The head is located between fore and main cabin. Here you will find
a shower, large wash basin and marine head with stainless steel holding
tank. Opposite of the head compartment is a hanging locker and linen shelves.
In the main cabin a comfortable U-shaped settee is found on starboard
which can be converted to a 6 ft. 7 in. long double berth. An equally long
single berth is on the port side, alternatively 2 chairs with bar and table
can be built in on port. A large mahogany double drop-leaf table is solidly
mounted in the center of the cabin. There is ample storage below the berths
and above are cabinets, shelves and storage compartments.
Headroom: In the main Salon: approx. 6 ft. 8 in.
The galley, located on starboard, is well equipped with 3 burner gas
stove with oven having a fixed and a gimballed position. Two stainless
steel sinks. Large, well insulated ice box with optional refrigeration
unit. Storage cabinets for dishes, pots, pans and several drawers for other
kitchen accessories.
Opposite the galley on port is the Navigator's place with plenty of
space for electronic instruments.
.
Aft of the Navigator's station is the entrance to the very spacious
aft-cabin offering you another very comfortable double berth, and again
plenty of storage and locker space
