The Buegel Anchor

During the last few years we have read about the overwhelmingly positive experiences of European sailors who circumnavigated using the "Buegel" Anchor (developed and patented by a German sailor with a three-time circumnavigation background).

We have also seen an ever increasing number of boats throughout Europe's marinas with this anchor.

Finally, we read a book by a German couple who cruised the Pacific Coast to Southern Chile - and there it was again - this "Buegel" anchor prominently displayed in pictures of their boat.

That did it!

Several years ago we purchased some of these "Buegel" anchors and tested them on all three of our demonstrator vessels:

All of these boats sail frequently from our marina in North Carolina to boat shows in New England, Maryland, and points along the coasts of Virginia and the Carolinas.

During the course of the voyage, we usually anchor out to save time (and money), thus providing us numerous opportunities, in good weather and bad, to test the holding power of the "Buegel".

The Conclusion: In all three boats, the "Buegel" anchor proved to be far superior to the Bruce, CQR and Delta.

We have had to anchor a few times in unprotected waters with 30 to 40 knot winds. The "Buegel" never failed! In fact, we found that the more load applied the deeper the penetration into the ground.
