Cruising World, Bernadette Bernon, Shearwater 39, Ithaka
Former Cruising World Editor-in-Chief Bernadette Bernon writes:
"... as the first sprinkles fell, (we) rooster-tailed through the mangroves toward Calabash and Ithaka. By nightfall, winds reached 40 knots. Rain came sideways. At 2100, the wind hit 48 and it gusted in that neighborhood for four hours. Ithaka held strong. Next morning, we heard on the VHF that Queen Mary and Kiwi dragged and re-anchored in the storm. On Godewind, Joe's innovative German Buegel anchor hadn't budged. "
Escpecially among cruisers, this type of performance and reliability does not go unnoticed. If only the crews of Queen Mary and Kiwi had been using a Buegel anchor, they might have had a dryer, more restful night.
William McMillan: Vancouver Steel 42 ft. 30,000 lbs.
"The anchor is fantastic - we used it in the St. Lawrence River in the thousand Islands and literally stayed at anchor all summer - the boat is a Vancouver steel 42 ft overall 30,ooo lb displacement. the Bottoms were clay, loose mud, and at times rocks and granite - the boat never budged from its position and on several occasions we had during storms other boats tied off of us with their bows held by the anchor and the stern to shore - most in the 36 foot range - this anchor sets instantly and has never failed - thunderstorms with winds up to 70 mph in hard blows - thank you for bringing this anchor to North America."

PS. too bad you don't get this thing advertised around up here in the Great Lakes area - also the shape of the anchor is terrific to coil the hose around when the boat is at the yacht club!
Ronald Tobias, Catalina 310
"We have had our Buegel for almost a year now and are very happy with it, although we did have a moment when we wrapped the anchor around a submerged tree stump and had to have divers free it, but other than that, the anchor has performed wonderfully. We had a Catalina 250 and it held in winds up to 30+ knots without giving an inch. We anchor in soft (mud) bottoms primarily since we are lake sailors. We just bought a Catalina 310 and are looking forward to seeing how the Buegel performs with that boat."
What a champ!
Sincerely,
Ronald Tobias

The owner of the Annapolis Sail Yard mentioned to one of our customers, (a fellow Buegel anchor owner), that a 31 foot Camano Trawler, with a Buegel anchor, was the only boat, of the many that anchored out, that did not break loose and drag anchor, during Hurricane Isabel, which devastated boats, marinas, businesses and residences in the Chesapeake Bay area in the fall of 2004.
